out of oblo - october 2024
The word of the month for our October was definitely "connection", and here’s why.
Dear oblo friend, how is autumn treating you?
As pumpkins popped up everywhere and leaves began to fall (are we being romantic? Maybe), we said goodbye to October. This month was marked for us by several occasions to connect with the design and innovation community: meet-ups, opening nights, interviews, and remote classes were a precious source of inspiration and enrichment.
We joined the Italian community to celebrate the new ADI Design Index, and a selected project
Let’s start from the end: on October 30th, we took part in the ADI Design Index opening night, to celebrate the inclusion of the Setflow platform in this year's Compasso d’Oro selection.
Setflow is the first SaaS to manage content production all in one place, from talent hiring talent, to finding location. The project was the result of a close collaboration among our team (shout-out to Chiara Albanesi and Laura Toffetti), our partner studio Fightbean, and the Wesual team, who made it possible to go from discovery to MVP and launch within just one year.
Seeing it recognised among the excellence of Italian design is making us so proud!
Working on inclusion-related projects led us to engage in insightful conversations with accessibility and interaction experts
In the past weeks, we had the opportunity to exchange thoughts and learnings with professionals and experts about accessibility and inclusion in different contexts.
During a research phase, we reached out to SMEs to discuss learnings and visions on the evolution of inclusive design, while in the last UXTalk organized by the PoliDesign Experience Design Academy, our Alessandra Del Nero shared her insights about design practices for inclusive public services.
During her talk, she focused on three main aspects.
☞ Moving from “edge case” to “stress case”, in the way we intend design for inclusion, to improve the overall experience for everyone
☞ Prioritising language accessiblity and a content first approach,
☞ Shifting from a user focus to a focus on all people involved in the service delivery, to grant its sustainability and systemic impact.
More insights from the event and the other talks are beautifully summarized in this Medium article.
We hosted a meet up about wayfinding, and welcomed Giuseppe Attoma Pepe in our studio
How we manage information and how this practice can affect someone's experience was the core reflection in the speech that Giuseppe Attoma Pepe shared during our Service Design Meets event dedicated to wayfinding and his experience in the field.
How do we, as users, deal with the anxiety caused by the ambiguity of information? And how can we, as designers, manage the need for meaningful information depending on the context?
These elements, combined with several examples and case studies in the public transportation field, became the starting point for reflecting on how designing informative experiences is not just about providing guidelines, but actually shaping people's behaviour and approach to space and mobility.
Full speech available on our youtube channel :)
Roberta Tassi met with Marzia Aricò to share her experience as founder, and now their conversation is online on Design Mavericks
From interviewing to being interviewed: Roberta Tassi was on the other side of the discussion guide, being interviewed by Marzia Aricò for her Design Mavericks projects, about her story as designer and founder, challenges and visions for the future. Having Marzia and her team in our studio was a warm and precious opportunity for the whole team to exchange thoughts about design leadership and the evolution of our work.
Thanks Marzia again for the opportunity: here’s the link to watch the full interview. Also, she just launched her book “Design Leadership Chronicles”, a graphic novel about organisational change, and we are looking forward to reading it.
We celebrate a new edition of the Reskilling program we shaped together with TAG in 2021
These days, a new edition of the Talent Garden Reskilling program is launching. Digital Restart is a program designed to support people over 40 who are are seeking to change or shift their career paths.
This initiative is the result of a project conducted together with the Talent Garden school team in 2021, aimed at identifying opportunities and priorities for a new reskilling format. The research we conducted with HR managers from various Italian organisations helped us identify key priorities and enabled the team to challenge and refine their initial assumptions on course and topics priorities.
We’re delighted to see that, even after years, this initiative continues to bring value.

It’s all for this month, see you soon!
Anything you want to discuss with us? You can book a 30 min call or drop us a line.
Enjoy November,
